The Eckmühl lighthouse has a strange saxon name for a lighthouse in Brittany. The name comes from a childless parisian baroness who willed money for “the construction of a lighthouse on a dangerous spot of the coast of France”. Her father, Maréchal Davout (named prince of Eckmühl by Napoléon I^er), had won a battle in the town of Eckmühl, in south Bavaria. The lighthouse was built between 1893 and 1897.

Le phare d’Eckmühl a un étrange nom saxon pour un phare de Bretagne. Le nom vient d’une baronne parisienne sans descendance, qui légua de l’argent pour « la construction d’un phare sur un point dangereux des côtes de France ». Son père, le Maréchal Davout (fait prince d’Eckmühl par Napoléon I^er), avait gagné une bataille dans la ville d’Eckmühl, en Bavière du sud. Le phare a été construit entre 1893 et 1897.
