In between two boats moored in the Aber Wrac’h harbour, I spotted this juvenile fish, about 1.5cm long.

Entre deux bateaux amarrés dans le port de l’Aber Wrac’h, j’ai repéré ce poisson juvénile d’à peu près 1,5cm de long.

It’s a flat fish. In its juvenile stage, it swims “upright”. If it lives to mature, it will eventually fall to the bottom, lay on its side, and the eye situated below will migrate to the top of its head. I hope it’s lucky enough to get to that stage. It was pretty active, feeding on fish larvae almost invisible to the eye.

C’est un poisson plat. Dans sa phase juvénile, il nage « droit ». S’il vit jusqu’à l’âge adulte, il finira par tomber au fond, se poser sur le côté, et l’œil situé dessous migrera vers le haut de sa tête. Je lui souhaite d’avoir assez de chance pour aller jusque là. Il était très actif, et se nourrissait de larves de poisson tout juste visibles à l’œil nu.
